Schon die erste Szene lässt einen nicht mehr los. Ein 360°-Kameraschwenk, der intensiver und hypnotischer wirkt als alles, was Inarritu und seine Computerprogrammierer mit „Birdman“ versucht und nicht erreicht haben. Von da an hält der Film den Zuschauer in seinem Bann. David Robert Mitchell arbeitet mit den Kameraeinstellungen, wie man es bisher nur selten in einem Film erlebt hat. Er baut Spannung in den Momenten auf, in denen man eigentlich mit nichts Bösem rechnet. Doch am grausamsten wird es, wenn er in einer Totalen alles zeigt. Die Figuren, die unbekümmert im Bildvordergrund stattfinden, während das „Es“ sich seinen Weg aus dem Hintergrund bahnt. Er lässt alles geschehen, denkt gar nicht daran, eine Szene vorzeitig zu beenden. Er reizt jeden Spannungsmoment bis ins schier unerträgliche aus. Selbst hartgesottene Zuschauer dürften da das ein oder andere Mal nervös auf der vorderen Stuhlkante auf und ab wippen.
